Installing the V8

Things you must do before dropping in the LT1

  • The ERG must be removed. It will hit the firewall.

  • The Mazda oil pressure switch must be installed directly into the Chevy's block, don't try to use the original extension. There is no clearance for it.

  • You must clearance the transmission tunnel on the passenger side after you remove the Mazda heat shield.

  • The oil pan must be clearanced on the right side to clear the P/S rack.

Here's the LT1 and transmission ready to drop in. Lots of room. I did it all by myself, but it would have gone faster with a helper to steer it in while I lower it.

You will need to get that hood open as far as you can. Watch out for the upper rad support, the oil pan could bend it.

Once you clear the rad support, you need to drop the tail end of the transmission way down low. Make sure you have no oil in it, or you have plugged the tail shaft.

Just about in all the way. All most!
Resting on the cradle. It just little old me about 15 minutes to slip it in with no damage. Dropping in the LT1
A front view. LT1 resting in place
Notice how high the OEM alternator sits! It does hit the hood. An easy fix though. Alternator is too high!
