Introduction

This is a project that I've been looking forward to doing. I have a bit of history with Mazda rotary cars, and a love for Chevy V8s. The RX7 is a particularly good choice to swap a V8 into because of the generous room for the engine and the wide and high transmission tunnel. Also these car are great handling cars and still handle great even with the weight of the V8. You can find an RX7 with a worn and tired engine for a good price. The original rotary engine is fairly expensive to overhaul.

Red 1988 Mazda RX7

The engine for this this swap is an LT1 - 5.7 V8 from a 1993 Chevy Camaro. The transmission is a 6 speed T-56. The engine has a BBK throttle body, and will have headers when installed. Other than that, this is a stock engine. The light weight and 4.10 rear gears will give this car amazing performance.

This car was purchased with the intention of installing a V8. The engine was starting to run with blue smoke at startup and had over 200,000 kms. I had hoped that the car would have run about a year longer than it did. The clutch gave out early and the car was parked for over a year. Now I have it in the shop and work has begun.

I have removed the original rotary engine and transmission already and am now preparing the car for the V8.

Photos are coming as I sort them and optimize them for the website.

Two sources of information for this swap are; Granny's Speedshop & V8 RX7 Forum.
