| The
first thing to deal with is the alternator. The LT1 alternator
is way too big. And the support bracket is too tall, it hits
the hood. Using the Mazda alternator means dealing with
converting it to a serpentine drive and making new mounts.
Locating an alternator anywhere else would be a real pain.
This was simple, even the F-body harness plugs into it.
I chose to change over to another GM
alternator, don't know the application yet, but it's a Bosch #
AL655X
I cut the original support off where I
have drawn the line to the right of the alternator.

Looking up from under the car, you can see that
the original alternator bracket touches the hood bracing. The
smaller alternator fits into the space to the left of the hood
brace. I can easily pass my hand over top.

| I
simply replaced the old with the new. I'll make up a support
to replace what I cut off. |
|
| The
alternator is now mounted. The bracket was simple to make. A
spacer behind is needed to fill the space between the bracket
and the alternator. I used a #5060595 belt. |
